Generator Installation
Ellington, CT

Crystal Lake year-round conversions

Crystal Lake’s cottage stock was built for summer weekends, and a lot of it now runs as year-round housing on 60–100A services. A standby generator on those properties almost always pairs with a service upgrade so the transfer switch has a code-compliant panel to land on. We quote generator + panel as one combined-permit job so the lake cottage passes a single inspection cycle.

Somers Road & Route 140 farm loads

Ellington’s working farms off Somers Road and Route 140 carry loads most residential installers never see — barn subpanels, stock tank heaters, well pumps, walk-in coolers. Farm generator sizing starts at the barn, not the house: we meter the real running loads before recommending a Generac 22kW vs 26kW vs a larger air-cooled unit, so the herd equipment stays live through an outage.

Ellington Center farmhouse panels

The farmhouses around Ellington Center commonly run pre-1970 main panels, and a few still carry fuse boxes. A generator install on these becomes a generator + panel combined-permit job. We coordinate the Eversource meter-pull window so the panel swap, transfer switch, and generator land in a single inspection cycle instead of stretched across two permits.

Sadds Mill and Route 83 newer builds

Ellington’s newer subdivisions off Route 83 and around Sadds Mill are the easy installs — modern 200A panels, clear pad sightlines, straightforward gas coordination. These typically go quote → permit → install in under three weeks, and increasingly pair a generator with an EV charger in the same visit to share the permit and Eversource coordination.

What we install — Generac & Kohler

Both Generac and Kohler whole-house standby generators are CT-popular. Generac has the larger CT dealer network; Kohler tends to run quieter. We’ll walk you through both for your Ellington load profile.
