Kohler Generator Installation

Three main reasons in Eastern CT context: (1) marginally quieter operation, which matters on tight lots; (2) longer extended-warranty options (up to 10 years on the engine on some models, vs Generac's 5-year standard); (3) premium build-quality reputation. Generac wins on price (typically $500-$1,500 less for equivalent kW) and nationwide service network size. We install both — pick based on the priorities that matter to you.

Most Eastern CT whole-house Kohler installs are the 20RESCL (20kW) for typical 3-bedroom homes with one HVAC zone + well pump, or the 26RESC (26kW) for larger homes, second-HVAC-zone setups, or homes with EV charging during outages. We do a full load calc as part of the free walk-through quote.

Most Eastern CT Kohler installs run $13,500-$18,500 fully installed for a 20-26kW unit. Slightly higher price point than equivalent Generac wattage. The variation depends on gas line length, panel upgrade requirements, generator pad placement, and propane tank work. All-in installed price quoted up front.

On-site install is typically 1-2 days. Lead time is the bigger factor: Kohler residential units have 3-4 weeks lead time during normal periods, longer during peak storm season. Total contract-to-operational is usually 5-7 weeks in normal conditions.

5-year limited warranty standard on most residential models (engine, alternator, controller). Extended warranties available up to 10 years on the engine on most models. The warranty starts on the install commissioning date. TJF backs the installation with our 10-year written workmanship guarantee, so labor is covered through year 10 either way.

Yes. Annual service includes oil change, air filter, spark plugs, battery check, transfer switch test, and exercise cycle review. Kohler-specific maintenance kits ship from the factory to authorized installers — we use OEM parts. Maintenance contracts run $300-$475 per year depending on travel and access. Skipping maintenance can void warranty coverage.

In normal periods, yes — 5-7 weeks contract-to-operational means an early-summer order is operational before October. During active storm seasons (late August onward), lead times extend significantly and units may not be available until winter. Calling for a quote in spring is the right move.
