Walking distance from our 5 Crystal St service point
As part of our Ellington, CT service area, Crystal Lake customers get the same CT-licensed, fully-insured team on every job — led hands-on by owner Tyler — with our 10-year written workmanship guarantee. Crystal Lake is the strongest-proximity footprint in our entire service area — our Ellington GBP is on Crystal Street itself. Lake-cottage rewiring, panel upgrades, generators, and EV chargers are our daily mix here.
Many Crystal Lake shoreline cottages were converted from seasonal to year-round occupancy. Original 60A/100A services, ungrounded outlets, and 1960s-70s aluminum branch wiring are common — and increasingly flagged at insurance renewal.
200A modern panels for older Crystal Lake homes and load-creep upgrades in newer subdivisions. Permitted, inspected, single-day swap.
Generac and Kohler standby installs sized for full lake-house load — sump pump, well pump, freezer, HVAC, the rest of the house.
Level 2 home chargers for Crystal Lake commuter households. Tesla Wall Connector, JuiceBox, ChargePoint. Properly sized circuit, permitted install, current Eversource incentive rules explained.
Everything you get when you call TJF Electric — zero hidden fees
Our Ellington service point at 5 Crystal St is literally on Crystal Lake. Crystal Lake addresses are typically 2-5 minutes from the truck, which means one of the fastest response times you can get in this footprint. For emergency calls here, we are routinely the closest licensed electrician available.
Crystal Lake's shoreline carries decades of seasonal cottages that have been converted to year-round occupancy. The original 60A or 100A service was never re-sized; ungrounded two-prong outlets are still common; aluminum branch wiring from the 1960s-70s shows up in roughly 1 in 3 conversion-era homes. CT homeowner-policy underwriters increasingly flag these at renewal. We handle the panel-plus-rewire combination on a single permit.
Crystal Lake lots are typically 0.1-0.2 acres with neighbors close on the shore-facing side. Generator pad placement around lot lines, noise impact on bedroom-side windows, and shared-driveway coordination during utility outages all matter. We walk every lot before quoting to find a placement that meets manufacturer clearances, code, and neighbor expectations.
Lake-shore properties with boat docks, electric boat lifts, dock lighting, or in-water electrical require very specific GFCI protection and bonding per CT and NEC code. Dock-side electrical that's been added over decades without an electrician's involvement is a common find. We pull permits and bring the dock-side electrical up to current code as part of the broader cottage rewire when needed.

Crystal Lake jobs touch the lake itself surprisingly often — dock-side electrical, boat-lift bonding, dock-light GFCI retrofits. Many of these were added over decades by non-electricians; CT code requires very specific GFCI protection on in-water and dock-side electrical, and we typically bring those up to compliance as part of broader cottage rewires.
