EV Charger Installation
Vernon, CT

Commuter-belt garage installs

The post-1960 colonials and capes along Route 30, Dart Hill, and the I-84 belt are the standard Vernon install: attached garage, panel in the basement directly below, 20-40 foot run, done in a morning. Tesla Wall Connector and universal units both fit here; the load calc decides 48A versus a load-managed 32A on tighter panels.

Rockville tight-lot and street-parking reality

Rockville’s mill-cottage streets park in shared driveways and on-street — charger placement is a judgment call involving lot lines, meter location, and where the car actually sits overnight. We walk every Rockville install before quoting; sometimes the right answer is a hardwired unit on a rear corner with a cord-management plan rather than the textbook garage mount.

Two-family conversion metering

EV charging in Vernon’s two-family conversions raises the fair-metering question: whose meter carries the charger? We wire the charger to the correct unit’s panel — adding a subpanel or meter separation when the existing split can’t support it — so the bill lands where the car lives and both units stay code-clean.

Panel headroom east of Route 30

Vernon’s 1960s-70s stock often carries 100A panels that are one EV charger away from needing 200A — and some carry Federal Pacific panels that should be replaced regardless. The load calc tells us which path fits; when a swap is warranted we quote charger + panel as one job under one permit, which is cheaper than sequencing them.

Typical Vernon EV install cost

Most CT Level 2 installs run $800–$2,200 installed, and in 2026 most Vernon homeowners pay that in full — the upfront Eversource rebate narrowed to income- and HPLO-qualified households on January 1, 2026, and the federal 30C credit no longer applies to anything placed in service on or after July 1, 2026. Managed Charging credits are still open to every residential customer regardless of income; the eligibility detail is in our Eversource rebate guide. If your panel needs headroom first, we quote the panel upgrade and the charger as one job.
